Description

The death certificate, death extract and multilingual extract can be obtained by anyone in any Italian municipality, provided that you know the personal details of the person whose document you wish to obtain and that his or her death has been registered in an Italian municipality.

The full copy of the death certificate, however, can only be issued to a relative or a person with a legally relevant interest. The complete copy of the death certificate can be issued to anyone who is interested only 70 years after the death certificate was issued.

To obtain these documents, it is necessary to be delegated by a relative or a person with a legally relevant interest. The delegation form will be sent via email after completing the order.

To request the death certificate, death extract, multilingual extract or full copy of the death certificate, simply fill in the form providing the following information:

  • First name;
  • Surname;
  • Death date;
  • Municipality and Province of death.
  • Information contained in the death certificate

The death certificate contains the following information:

  • Name and surname of the deceased;
  • Date of death of the deceased;
  • Place of death of the deceased;
  • Death certificate registration number certifying the death.
The death certificate is the declaration of a public official certifying the death of a person in a specific Italian municipality. The document (death certificate) has the value of truthfulness and regularity of the information contained in it as it is signed by the municipal official and has unlimited value throughout the national territory.

Information contained in the death certificate

  • Name and surname of the deceased;
  • Date of death;
  • Place of death;
  • Death certificate registration number certifying the death.
  • Parental status of the deceased (e.g. spouse Tizia, son Caio)
  • Information contained in the multilingual extract

Information contained in the multilingual death extract

  • Name and surname of the deceased;
  • Date of death;
  • Place of death;
  • Death certificate registration number certifying the death.
  • Parental status of the deceased (e.g. spouse Tizia, son Caio)
The only difference with the "Italian" death extract is that the multilingual extract is drawn up by the municipality according to a "standard" model, valid and recognized in all countries that have joined the Vienna Convention of '76, namely: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, Croatia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. Does not require translation.

Information contained in the full copy of the death certificate

The complete copy of the death certificate is the photocopy of the original death certificate drawn up directly by the civil registry official of the municipality in which the death occurred at the time of the "declaration of death". The full copy of the death certificate contains the following information:

  • First name,
  • Surname,
  • Place of death,
  • Date of death,
  • Residence of the deceased,
  • Citizenship of the deceased;
  • Relatives (even possibly deceased) of the deceased,
  • Personal details of the person who declared the death of the deceased.
