From whom can the marriage certificate / extract / multilingual extract / full copy of the marriage certificate be requested?

The marriage certificate can be requested by anyone, as long as you know the personal data of at least one of the two spouses, the marriage data and, provided that the marriage has been registered in an Italian municipality.

The complete copy of the marriage certificate, the marriage extract and the multilingual marriage extract, on the other hand, can only be issued to the person concerned, or to a relative, or in any case to a person who has a legally relevant interest. The complete copy of the marriage certificate may be issued to anyone who is interested in it, without motivation or special delegation, only after 70 years have passed from the formation of the marriage certificate.

To request the marriage certificate/extract/multilingual extract/full copy of the marriage certificate, you just need to fill in the form by entering the following information:

What does the marriage certificate contain?

The marriage certificate is the declaration of the public official in which it certifies that the marriage took place between two physical subjects.

The document (marriage certificate) has the value of truthfulness and regularity of the information contained therein as signed by the municipal official and has unlimited value throughout the national territory.

• Information on the property regime chosen by the husband and wife (communion/separation of property);

What data does the multilingual abstract contain?

The data contained in the multilingual marriage extract are:

• Name of the two spouses;
• Surname of the two spouses;
• Date of birth of the spouses;
• Date of marriage;
• Place of celebration of the wedding;

May not contain

• Information on the patrimonial regime chosen by the husband and wife (communion/separation of goods);
• Divorce;
• Annulment

The only difference with the "Italian" marriage extract is that the multilingual extract is drawn up by the municipality according to a "standard" model, valid and recognized in all the countries that have adhered to the Vienna Convention of '76, namely: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, Croatia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. It does not need translation.

What does the complete copy of the marriage certificate contain?

The integral copy of the marriage certificate is the photocopy of the original marriage certificate drawn up directly at the time of the wedding and sent to the registrar of the municipality of the marriage. The data contained in the integral copy of the marriage certificate are:

• Details of the declarant (registrar who celebrated the marriage / minister of religion who celebrated the marriage)
• Generalities of wedding witnesses;
• Generality of the spouses;
• Residence of the spouses;
• Citizenship of the spouses and witnesses;
• Balance sheet chosen by the spouses;
• Date of the publications posted in the town hall;
• Marriage authorization decree;
• the reading of articles 143,144 and 147 of the Civil Code;
• The successful declaration of the spouses that they want to take each other as husband and wife;
• Place where the wedding was celebrated (church/municipal house);
• Time the wedding was celebrated;
• Possible termination of the marriage (divorce or annulment).

When to request the marriage certificate/extract/multilingual extract/full copy
