Description

How to request the certificate / extract / full copy of the marriage

The marriage certificate is a document that demonstrates the marriage between two natural persons, registered in an Italian municipality, of which the personal data and the date of celebration are known.

The full copy of the marriage certificate, the marriage extract and the multilingual marriage extract are more detailed documents, which can only be requested by the interested party, by a relative or by anyone with a legal interest. The full copy of the marriage certificate becomes accessible to all 70 years after the formation of the marriage certificate.

To obtain these documents, you must be delegated by one of the spouses, and receive the delegation form via email after completing the order. Then, you need to fill out the form with the following information:

  • Full name of the spouses (at least one of the two);

  • Date of birth of the spouses (at least one of the two);

  • Date of celebration of the wedding;

  • Municipality and province in which the marriage was celebrated.

What is written in the marriage certificate

The marriage extract is a document that contains the following data relating to the marriage between two natural persons:

  • Name and surname of the spouses;

  • Date and place of birth of the spouses;

  • Date and place of celebration of the wedding;

  • Property regime chosen by the spouses (community or separation of property);

  • Possible divorce of the spouses.

What is written in the multilingual extract

The multilingual extract is a document that contains the same data as the marriage extract, but in a standardized format and valid in all countries that have joined the 1976 Vienna Convention, including: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia- Herzegovina, France, Germany, Croatia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. Does not require translation.

May not contain

  • Property regime chosen by the spouses;

  • Divorce of spouses;

  • Annulment of marriage.

The difference with the Italian marriage extract is that the multilingual extract is drawn up by the municipality according to a standard model, while the Italian marriage extract can vary depending on the municipality.

NB To legalize the document, the Marriage Extract and the Multilingual Extract can be apostilled by the competent Prefecture. To request the apostille, simply select the "request with apostille" option in the form and the request will come directly to our systems.
